About the Project

Under the B.08.02 “Supporting the Pilot Implementation of a National Network of Digital fabrication laboratories (Fab-lab)-Peru (MINEDU)” project, the 26 Technological Institutes of Excellence (IDEX) of Peru will implement digital fabrication laboratories (Fab-lab) to ensure trainees develop the skillset needed for launching and strengthening the Fab-labs. Trainees will also have the individually required soft skills to lead innovation while facilitating and managing change within the institution. The project will run for one year, working alongside the Ministry of Education of Peru (MINEDU) and supported by Global Affairs Canada and Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) in the framework of its Pacific Alliance Program. Led by Humber College, the International Development Institute (IDI) will work with Cègep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (CSTJ) and Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB), with support from Humber’s Office of Research & Innovation, to contribute to the objectives prioritized in the Vice Ministerial Resolution No. 211-2021-Minedu: “I learn at home, I learn at school, and I learn in the community.”

Contributing to the SDGs:

By engaging in its first international development project in Latin America, Humber College continues to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The project will directly contribute to the following SDGs:

Quality Education

Project partners will develop and administer training and workshops to trainers. Training plans and strategies will support the technical integration of the Fab-labs in technical and vocational training courses.

Gender Equality

To promote gender equality (GE) and inclusion, the consortium has included GE in various project activities. In assessment and training, it has been included as a core topic and in workshops to increase awareness of the IDEXs and capacities of the DFL's leaders to incorporate it into strategy, planning and implementation of the laboratories.

Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Digital Fabrication Laboratories (Fab-labs) will be implemented in the 26 IDEX of Peru to foster innovation through digital manufacturing technology. Students will develop and enhance their skills to launch and strengthen the Fab-labs. Through this, students will have employment opportunities to work in industries requiring their learned skills.

Partnerships for the Goals

The project brings together funders, government officials and institutions to strengthen the implementation of Digital Fab-labs in the 26 IDEX of Peru to advance development.
